Paragraph a Day

Here, I'll post a paragraph each day (or a month, if I forget to post). They'll all connect to form into a story, so check often!

7/1/11

I stare out the window, tuning out the teachers monotonous voice. It's raining. The raindrops splatter against the window and pound on the roof, creating a soothing rhythm. It makes me a little melancholic.

8/2/11

The rain reminds me a little of tears, and a little of smiles. The corners of my lips tug, as if wanting to curl into a sad grin. I shake my head and allow my gaze to wander to the branches of the small tree that had been planted years ago. There's a bird in it, holding desperately to the branch with it's tiny claws. My smile melts into a frown.

8/4/11

My teacher reprimands me for not paying attention and forces my gaze to stay on the whiteboard. But what about the bird? The poor mother bird, fighting for her life. The rain isn't so soothing anymore.

8/7/11

The bell rings, and I run outside to the tree. I stare at the branches where, miraculously, the nest is still sitting. But where is the mother bird? My gaze lowers to the ground. The bird's neck is twisted, and she's still, unmoving. The rain batters me, disguising the salty tears running down my cheeks.
